Pressure gauge leaking on pressure tank for well, is it ok to just cap it off?

Had a freeze overnight and (luckily enough) the only damage seems to be with the pressure gauge on the front of my well. The pressure gauge is inoperable. The gauge also seems to be connected to some kind of float system, but doesn’t look like it controls anything (no electronics or anything connected to the float)

I have a handyman who came by to see what could be done and he suggested just removing the whole gauge assembly and capping it off, until proper repairs could be made

Does that sound good? I am a little familiar with how the well works, when pressure is low the well turns on and pressurizes the system, I’m just trying to make sure the gauge at the front is just for testing/reading, and doesn’t actually control the pressure

The pressure control, from what I understand, is the little box at the back near the rest of the controls, which seem to be independent of the gauge
