Why do you pirate content?

After being involved in this sub for a while I've found it really interesting that even people within this community seem to view piracy very differently and do it for very different reasons. All valid, just find it interesting and I like a nice discussion/debate.

Some people don't associate a monetary value to digital content and seem to think it's never worth paying for and will always download for free out of principle.

Some people just want to save as much money as possible. Understandable, particularly if you're already struggling with lifes essentials.

Some people are more selective on what they are willing to pirate. Maybe they only do it to avoid particularly expensive, immoral or intrusive services.

I'm in the third camp, it's more of a principle thing than it is about saving money. If a product is convenient, has a fair price and no excessive advertising I'd prefer to pay for it (I put Spotify Premium in that group).

The size of the company and their financial position factors in too. No matter what the price is and how much I'd use it I'd never pay for youtube for example. They were making obscene profits before ads now they put multiple unskippable ads in mid video - they don't even produce any content, the greed is unbeleivable.

On the other side of that I'd never pirate an indie game unless I was hard up for cash and genuinely doing a try before I buy, intending to buy it when I have the money. It's a tough industry, they need the money and there's a good chance I'm getting 100+ hours of entertainment for a very reasonable price.
