MV/Song Theories

These are my personal interpretations of the girls works. Please feel free to ask questions, add, or discuss! Long tangent incoming, TLDR at the end.

Otomodachi is their deaths. I don't believe that they did not die because they played with spirits or something I think they were murdered at school. It feels odd that the entire school is empty and it's a song about infighting, loneliness, and feeling excluded. They're obviously are a group of friends having issues so it makes sense they wouldn't be paying attention to someone trying to hunt them down. The second half where they have blindfolds is right after they are murdered. They are faceless because they are alive and all the killer saw was a group of bickering friends. Easy to pick off. They also sound more woeful and mournful in the blindfolded section which indicates to me regret for their own 'foolishness' of fighting and being unaware that this man was the real person to be worried about. (I also believe that they COULD have been possessed by spirits during that game and it could've caused them to become evil hunters but that's a COMPLETELY different theory)

Kimbatsu is revenge. Their faces are shown because they are now dead and now they are vengeful entities. I believe there were perhaps multiple killers maybe, more on that for Mashou. I believe that the male they execute in this video is an accomplice to their killing or apart of it. I say perhaps an accomplice because he's shy and clearly more frightened. Dare I say regretful...? The school uniform he was wearing as well gives that idea that he was someone who attended their school. In this scenario we are assuming he is 'deserving' of punishment in the eyes of the girls. The girls are no longer fighting and are now united in seeking their revenge. They're not going to make the same mistake. It is also such an angry song with the touches of cuteness that are absolutely taunting. The Miu 'gero gero' and Rinka 'maoooaoooo' are clearly mocking of what the guy sounds like in his fear. They're having fun while executing this guy. He's the 'lowest of the low'. They chase him around like playing with prey. They take their time and dance in front of his body. Also the moths being such a large part of the video and them getting saturated with blood in tandem with the girls means to me that they represent the girls. The victim is being metaphorically down his crimes. The eyes watching him. It feels as if they are showing him what he did and haunting him. Then they kill him ofc.

Mashou Shoujo is a fake out. It makes you think that they have moved on to a better place, but they have not. They still want revenge. This is the other killer or the stole person who likely headed their murder with the aforementioned accomplice. He wants to finish the job especially after his friend was murdered. I think their heads may have something to do with how they were murdered? Maybe decapitated? The song is a fakeout to lure the killer into thinking they are innocent and vulnerable like he views them. Not knowing they would strike. They are united completely and this MV makes it clear with how much the girls interact and do such girly things with each other like looking in the mirror and brushing hair. They slowly start revealing themselves as they get the upper hand (attaining his weapon) and this leads to his death. I believe the shot in the MV could where there's a large amount of girls behind the victim, faces covered by hair. This could either be an illusion by our lovely girls or a flash to exactly how many girls this guy has killed. Maybe he's a serial killer? Either way...this is their final revenge. (Maybe)

Hanabami is feeling lost and bargaining. They have gotten revenge and now what? Move on? I believe this is their transition into being spirits that masquerade among humanity. It feels like the idea to use beauty to hide the monster inside. Flower monster Hisui is also maybe an indicator that they feel inhuman or ARE inhuman. They call themselves unforgivable and say not to look at them. Maybe this is shame caused by the end of the revenge? An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Perhaps the revenge was not enough to heal the pain. Maybe this is the turmoil coming from becoming entities, and they feel like monsters. Maybe they never want to be hurt again, so they became the one who hurts. They hate love. Maybe this is a reference to how they got murdered? Seduction. There's also the seeming reference to the unrequited love syndrome (Hanahaki?) which could tie into the scorned love motif. They do not want to accept and let go of their feelings and be gone forever so instead they kill bad people (vigilante style). They have to dress up and hide to get their victims. They're mimicking what got them killed to lure other killers(?) so nobody gets hurt like them. (This one was harder)

Otome Shinju is their true masquerade. This is them detailing how they go about their prowl or the discovery of the bad guys. Assuming the former I believe this song details them luring in men via seduction and murdering them. They talk heavily about getting dressed up nicely and putting on hair accessories to go out on the town. The MV has them wearing beautiful festival like kimono(?) so it feels like they're getting ready to hunt. The talk of people coming across the body and gawking at it could be either people finding the corpse of their victim OR people finding the female corpses of victims from the men they're hunting. I think the human heart symbolism is meant to be tied to them 'eating the hearts of men' or killing them via seduction, or hell maybe they're eating em who knows.

Zoku Zoku is a power play. They are the winners now. They have gotten their revenge and more, it's like a celebration! They get to taunt and tease now because no one can harm them anymore. They're calling themselves beautiful and it's all so vivid! They have reached their final forms. (Which is pretty flaming butterflies ig)

Hanagatami is acceptance. So much time spent on revenge, anger, hunting that they did not realize they were wilting away and falling apart themselves. After such an intensely burning flame all that's left is the cold whiteness. There is no more reason to fight. There's no more reason to hunt. They're tired. Even celebrating isn't so fun anymore. The celebration is over so it's time to let go. Like the flowers they let out onto the water. Lie in your casket of flowers and allow yourself to wilt. It's over now.

I hope this is as fun to read as it was to write! I really love music and Phantom Siita's has become so meaningful for me, so it was such a blast to really take down my thoughts! Please engage if you feel inclined I would love to discuss!! Sorry for any typos or mistakes!
