Fruit tree in an old fire pit

Hello everyone I hope you are having a wonderful Monday.

I am slowly convincing my parents to plant fruit trees in their yard, and to take out invasive ornamentals and switch to native plants. We recently retired an old fire pit and put a thick mulch over the ash (last fire was years ago) and I think it would be a great place for a fruit tree. Given that there were once fires there, what sorts of fruit trees would thrive or suffer given those soil conditions?
