Slow down, speedy!

Apologies if this is a strange or stupid question: So, I’m newly diagnosed and I am a notoriously zippy person. For whatever reason, be it my tiny short legs or my perpetual little goblin/rat person energy, I can’t seem to stop my self from scurrying around no matter what I do. Obviously this does not play well with my newly acquired insane heart rate. Does anyone have any tips for adjusting to this and slowing down my pace a bit /before/ I find myself huffing and puffing? I have a cane from a previous injury that I use on occasion if I have to be standing for a while. Would utilizing that more often when I’m out and walking about be a practical approach to slowing myself down,or is it a bit overdramatic/ an overcorrection?
