How much salt should you have per day?
Obviously this varies from person to person but what’s a good starting point? When I was diagnosed (2.5 years ago) I just got told to drink electrolyte drinks but not about how much electrolytes I should have specifically. I’ve been doing exactly that, mostly just on bad days, and it’s never been something I’ve thought more into because my POTS is usually mild.
I’m going through a pretty intense flare-up right now and I’ve been having electrolyte drinks (Lucozade Sport) really often but I don’t feel like it’s doing much and it’s not sustainable to be buying all the time and having all the sugar that’s in it. How do I go about increasing my salt intake and around how much should I start with? Are other electrolytes important too? I will ask my GP about this too but I’m starting here since you’re all very knowledgeable and I’m not sure how much my GP will know since they’re not a POTS specialist.
Any other tips for dealing with flares would be much appreciated too! Also anyone else in the UK, which other electrolytes drinks/products do you use?
