Awful day at clinical rotation
I am on my second rotation, which is Women’s Health. I am typically at the outpatient clinic with my PA, but today she placed me in Labor and Delivery to see some OR action and vaginal deliveries. I was super excited for this! Women’s health is one of my favorite specialities and I was stoked to finally be able to see a childbirth in real life. However, just left the hospital now feeling god-awful and perhaps teary. The residents were not very welcoming. They would go off with the medical student for hours and leave me waiting for them at the desk. It is not possible to study at this spot, so I just sat and re-read a patients chart. Over and over again. The resident comes back and I try to ask a question about a birth they did (I couldn’t go because they didn’t introduce me) and she’s like I’m busy right now with notes, give me a second. Of course, that’s understandable that’s her job. Well, I sit there again and she’s charting for the next hour. I’m in a patients room another time and they introduce the med student but not me and walk out right after. I have felt awful for the past 8 hours. I don’t think they had malicious intent whatsoever but man. It does feel shitty to be a nobody.
