Leaning towards a newer school…

over one of, if not the most established school. I need help with some further insight on this, and please do not just jump to the immediate “ESTABLISHED>>>>NEW - ALWAYS!!!” rhetoric that never provides any nuance ever.

I’ve been lucky enough to get 4 A’s to this point. I was going to be happy with 1 to literally anywhere I applied. 2 of them I have decided I will be declining shortly based on location and some other things about the schools I didn’t love. The other two are polar opposites in ATSU-KCOM and DUQCOM.

DUQCOM was my first acceptance and after the interview day and accepted students day, I can confidently say I love everything about it. This does not seem like a typical, thrown together, poor attempt at starting a DO school. They have clear motivations, good people in place, and great resources (new building, undergrad campus in a city, new apartments right next to the school, all rotations within 1-2 hours), so I’m struggling to just blindly fall into the established>new “rule” that I see on here constantly.

ATSU-KCOM clearly has its advantages (I don’t feel the need to list them) and I would be thrilled to go there as well, but I just can’t get as excited about it for whatever reason.

I am looking for 1.) anyone who goes to either of these schools to provide some thoughts on their school and 2.) anyone who has made a similar decision to talk about what they chose, why they did and how they feel it worked out.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I just can’t get behind blindly going to a more established school no matter any of the other factors. I understand the general reasons behind this mindset with rotation set up and match data, but I feel like at least for me, there are so many other factors that will affect my happiness for the next 4 years beyond those things. And I also feel like DUQCOM could excel in those areas as well. Idk, obviously I sound biased at this point cuz I do love it there. For what it’s worth, I have no intentions of trying to match into a super competitive specialty.

Thanks in advance for any responses.
