I hate the Valedictorian system

Because tell me WHY the students who do not give AF about school and their grades are literally just passing are able to become Valedictorian (and they do become them) just because they’re popular??

There are so so so many worthy and deserving students in my school each year who deserve to be Valedictorian because they’re actually work hard in school for both grades and extracurriculars but they don’t get the award because some stupid (not tryna be rude) person who has no extracurricular activities or grades is just more popular than them.

In the states or in the proper sense the Valedictorian is the student with the highest GPA, this sounds fair to me because people get to work hard and being Valedictorian is then a reward that they have rightfully earned. However, unfortunately in Canada or in our province there are elections and stuff like cmon now, how is that fair to the students actually participating in school and should be recognized for their achievements and hard work.

Anyways this is just a rant, maybe I’m not looking from the right perspectives but I think Valedictorian should be earned through grades/hard work rather than it being a popularity contest.

Thanks 😊
