Batman by Paul Dini. Some thoughts !

Just finished reading the Batman by Paul Dini omnibus, of what I've seen this book is very well regarded by fans, which is why I picked it up earlier this year. Here's some quick thoughts :

  • It is overall very solid. I don't recall any stories I didn't enjoy, but at the same time, there's no real ones that I would also consider "excellent". It all ranges from good to very good. My favorite arc was the one with Zsasz, Damian and Colin.

  • The quick 1 or 2 issues arcs are a welcome change to today's comics which are mostly five or six issues long. It's perfect for short burst reading, and like I said most of the stories are fun to read.

  • A good chunk of the arcs involve Hush, which isn't exactly one of my favorite villains. Dini does a nice job of expanding his back story, and there's some clever work done with him, but in the end it feels a little shallow.

  • The artwork was fantastic all the way through, especially Dustin Nguyen's art. I also love Dini's voice for the characters. The writing strikes a good balance between serious and fun.

So yeah. I had a good time with it, well worth a read, even if it doesn't place amongst my favorite Batman work.
