Survivability?

No matter what, I always seem to get one or two shot killed eventually. Tried defense drones, diffrrent formations (Never saw the point of shielded drones, isn't that simply leaving my ship vulnerable if I lose a drone?) taking armor and shield perks, bastion, stealth, reflect. Thinking maybe the warp ship is what I need, the moment you warp is the moment you know it's time to regroup.

I switch between roguelite mode and vanilla, working on the last two mode unlocks and not all upgrades are out yet but getting there.
