Book Reccomendation: His Majesty's Headhunters

This one is for my brothers and sisters who are into history, especially the lesser-known sides of WWII and how it affected Nagaland. As an avid reader, I will always reccomend 'His Majesty’s Headhunters' by Mmhonlümo Kikon, when asked about good literary pieces from NE (reason being, the author himself is a former legislator focused on preserving Northeast India's history and identity, hence the book) If I have to TL;DR it, it's about the Battle of Kohima in 1944 ( major turning point that stopped the Japanese advance into India)

The role of the Nagas in the battle has been largely overlooked, hence making it easy for certain groups of people to manipulate their history. The British recruited them as scouts, messengers, and guides, relying on their deep knowledge of the terrain.

Many Nagas also fought alongside the Allies, using guerrilla warfare to disrupt Japanese movements. But beyond the battlefield, i love the utter detail with which the book explores how colonial rule had already shaped Naga society by this point, how the British had influenced their political structures (eurgh), introduced new economic systems, and set the stage for post-war changes. It also looks at how the war’s aftermath altered their lives permanently, and exactly how it affects the masses.

It’s well-researched but very readable, so I urge anyone willing to read a fresh perspective on WWII to check this out.

If y'all have any reccomendations for good books, related to Northeastindia/ Nagaland, do feel free to share it in the comments!
