What is the deal with these memecoins and crypto in general?

First off, crypto. I understand about the block chain and how its a decentralised currency etc. I just dont see how it'll be the future, there are so many coins and they fluxuate all the time and they seem to follow global economic trends. Also it needs to be accessible, do you know how many pensioners refuse to do online banking and how many people are super sceptical of fashless societies - speak to your grandparents!

Secondly, meme coins. Who are buying them. They are always a scam. Im so confused. Is it just always people cashing in and hoping to get out before the rug pull happens? If so whats the actual value, just speculation of a hike that causes a hike? I am genuinely so confused.
