why would kurt change the lyrics to his songs in live performances?

i noticed that in songs like endless nameless, and i’m not sure if it was real or not but maybe lithium, have different lyrics from the original recording to the live performances.

was it kinda just like an “f you, i do what i want” type of thing or was it something else?
