Why are so many people making 20+ minute videos?

I'm seeing so many channels create much longer content that could be much more interesting and watchable if it was shorter, it's like they are extending the story just to make it a longer video.

Also i've seen a few channels just stop posting shorts entirely and sticking only to only long form, why is this?
