Are the pivot cups defective?

I just bought my son a new skateboard. He’s a first time rider, so we’re slowly testing it out and we noticed that it kind of drifts to the right. At first google, people were saying it needs to be broken in or the bushings need to be slightly loosened. I tried that, but it still favors going to the right.

Tonight I noticed that the pivot cup appears to be loose. Would this cause the drifting? And are replacement pivot cups universal?
