How do you like to set up your non-conference schedule?
I have everyone playing 9 conference games (at least in theory, Custom Conferences often makes things go haywire) so I have 3 non-con games. I usually do:
Game 1 (Week 0-1): FCS school. Pad the stats, maybe even have a QB competition if I haven't decided, and just generally get inexperienced guys some PT. Also gets me warmed up for the rest of the schedule.
Game 2: (Week 1-2): Road game against a low to mid-tier team that I have either never played or have some sort of connection to, like a former player or OC/DC.
Game 3: (Week 3-4): The heavyweight. Often a team I can avenge a playoff loss to or have never beaten. Played at home so I can schedule my first visit(s) of the season. It also gives me another difficult game because I find that in the Pac-12, only Oregon (an absolute dogfight every time) and SC are the only consistently tough opponents. Utah and Washington are a bit disappointing.
