The ironic shift in perception of Cooper Flagg's "weaknesses" from before college to today
It wasn't too long ago that the conventional wisdom about Cooper Flagg was that he's a generational defensive prospect with elite athleticism and physical tools who may or may not deserve the overall "generational" label because of concerns about his offensive bag and ability to be the #1 offensive option.
Now that Flagg has more of less closed the door on that debate by posting a historically great season as the offensive and playmaking fulcrum for the #1 team in the country as effectively a high school senior, I am seeing more and more posts on this sub expressing doubts and "concerns" about his athleticism and physical tools translating to the next level. To me this seems utterly insane as it is precisely his physical attributes that led him to be hyped as the #1 prospect in the country long before he proved his ability to carry an offense. I have seen nothing during his play in the NCAA that would lead me to start questioning that initial assessment.
My suspicion is that this is just haters looking to hate. Now that you can't try to discredit him by saying he can't be the number 1 offensive option what is left is concern trolling via claims that are patently false but can't be dismissed by a quick reference to box scores and advanced statistics. I have seriously seen people here state that this guy lacks vertical pop and explosiveness lmao. Meanwhile he's here narrowly avoiding hitting his head on the rim on a reactive chasedown block and swatting a floater at its apogee as a 17 year old.
