Dev Update - March 2025

Greetings everyone, it's been a while since my last update. I understand this project has been quiet, and I wanted to give some assurance that I am still working on it. Due to the lack of presentable updates, I have decided to give some text announcement on what my vision for this project is going to be, where I am currently at, and what are my next goal.

What is this project? I have not settled on a name yet, but the main idea for this project is a Pokemon game 'concept' that is basically Mystery Dungeon themed but real-time movement. This project takes inspiration from many Pokemon games, most notably Mystery Dungeon, Rumble, and Unite, with some other games mixed in.

Why am I making this project? This project has been a life-long dream of mine. I have always loved Mystery Dungeon's group exploration, resource management and story telling. I also enjoy action-packed JRPG such as Phantasy Star Online 2. Pokemon Rumble and Unite gave me the idea that a real-time Pokemon game is a workable idea, and thus I wanted to combine those element into a single game.

All that said, there is one other objective I have with this game, and that is I have a story I wish to be told. I have decided the best medium to tell my story is through this project.

In summary, I have 2 main reasons for making this project. It is my passion, and my mission.

What is the current status of the project The project is still in its infancy, not even alpha. I am still prototyping much of the mechanics, such as the combat system, the dungeon generation, boss fights, item system, equipment, skills, village amenities, and many more.

Much of the mechanics already implemented are prone to future tweaks and changes as the project becomes more developed.

Can the project go any faster? I am currently working on this project alone, while balancing other projects. This project is quite ambitious, and while I have already streamlined certain taskings and make sure I work on the more impactful portions first, it is still a large project that'll take some time. As of my current production speed, I can produce some kind of update every month or two.

What if I want to contribute to this project? As of right now, I am unable to accept any big help. Until I have a more robust foundation where I can properly delegate the taskings, it is difficult to get people to help without being too invasive to the project. I can accept help with assets, such as 3D models and audio files, but having direct hand in the programming would be difficult.

Is this project sustainable? Will it be abandoned halfway? As I've said before, this project is both my passion and my mission, and I will try to get it done no matter what. That said, frankly speaking, this project is not sustainable, simply for the fact that I will not be monetizing it for obvious reasons. However, I do have plans on how I can sustain this project through indirect means, either through my other commercial projects, or donations and commissioning of custom characters.

Will this project be free-to-play? I'm not even sure if I could distribute it publicly. I probably won't. Only select few will get to play this game as my testers. If you are one of those lucky few that I gave the game out to, feel free to spread the love.

What is the story of the game? Every Mystery Dungeon game needs a story (and an amnesiac protagonist). The story of this project largely follows the theme of Mystery Dungeon, where the protagonist sets on a journey to save the world from some kind of intangible evil.

It's an awfully short and generic summary devoid of all nuances, and that would be an understatement. The story follows an overarching theme of utilitarianism, inflection, and redemption. It is inspired from my own life story.
