Importance of picking your driving school and instructor carefully

I was new in Munich(around 2019-20) and I had picked a driving school in Unterhaching. I had a license in home country(non-EU ) and hence needed to take the theory and practical tests only. Classes were optional. Until Theory test everything seemed to be fine. Passed theory exam in first attempt. The instructor guy looked fine initially. But turned out to be horrible with anger issues and phone usage during classes. For instance, he shouted at me for an alarm ringing in my phone during an early morning class. I had forgotten to switch the daily alarm off. Slowly I lost my confidence in driving all together. Finally after a failed attempt, I managed to pass the exam in second attempt. I was happy more to leave the instructor and driving school than to get my license.

In 2023, my wife who also had a non-EU license wanted to take a German license. Learning from my experience we searched for a good school and instructor. Finally from a friend's suggestion, we selected a school in Aschheim. The experience was entirely different. The lady instructor was really sweet. She had years of experience and gave tips to make driving situations more predictable. She increased my wife's confidence in driving. She passed both the tests in first attempt.

It costed approx 2000 euros for both of us. (Inflation raising the per hour charges by 50% -2019 vs 2023). But our experiences were entirely different. The unfortunate thing is that, the good driving school is closed now and the horrible one is still running.
