What being out for 7 months has been like
Hi! From someone who has been on HRT for about a year, and publicly myself for about 7 or 8 months, these are some observations and tips based on my experience.
- People are NOT as observant as you might think. Just because you're wearing frilly clothing, makeup, have a very feminine name and have tits doesn't mean good natured people will automatically refer to you as a woman. Sometimes you gotta tell people what you want. This is especially true for people who knew you pre transition.
Edit to add: Women are more observant than men, by far!
Not nearly as many people are staring at you in public as you may think. I'm hyper vigilant, and I really only get the same amount of attention in public that I did in boy mode. Unless I'm wearing something particularly flashy, I go about as any other person.
The person on the phone will probably misgender you unless you state your name very clearly or have a feminine sounding voice.
Depending where you live and where you work, the amount of support you get from strangers can be overwhelmingly amazing. I interact with the public everyday for work, and I often get stuff like "omg you're so cute", and "I love that you're being yourself", etc. Love those moments.
