This is my first monster hunter game. The controls feel a bit weird, any tips?

I’m new to playing monster hunter games, I’ve been told that controller is better than keyboard and mouse so I’m using my Xbox controller. I’m very used to souls games and RPGs, so using Y and B for combat is very uncomfortable to me. I find myself constantly messing up my combos because I’m defaulting back to the X button and R1 a lot.

I noticed I can’t remap my button layout on controller. Does anyone have any tips for making the controls easier, or do I just need to keep practicing for several hours?
