Getting my IUD, what to expect?
Hi, I’m a 17 year old female scheduled to get Mirena soon. I’ve been on the pill for 4ish years and I want something simple that can be inserted and I won’t have to worry about pills or anything for 7 years through and after college. It’s also more effective than the pill and will most likely get rid of my periods and the mood swings that come with them (which was the whole reason for being on it in the first place).
My doctor and mom have told me about common symptoms, but I’d like to know everyone’s personal experience so I have a wide range of what to expect. I’m planning on taking 800mg of ibuprofen the morning of (per docs request… should I take more or less?) and a light breakfast so I’m not empty but not overly full and nauseous either. But that’s all I’m doing. No sedation, no cervical block, nothing. A little tmi, but the gyno told me my body handled the speculum really well and that I should be fine. But I am a little bit of a wuss when it comes to pain so I’d like some stories, advice, and feedback.
Please let me know your experiences and any suggestions you may have. Thanks so much!
