Minisforum HX99G works great natively with Apple Studio Display
This is sort of just a PSA for an issue I have been looking into on and off for a while.
The Apple Studio Display only connects over thunderbolt, not HDMI. People have wanted to use the Apple Display with PCs, but a have encountered a lot of trouble (see here: https://nadim.computer/posts/2023-07-22-studiodisplay.html). There are a number of posts about which cables may or may not work. This is annoying because the studio display is a nice, expensive monitor and it would make sense to have a setup where you can switch between a mac mini/studio and a mini pc.
I recently bought the Minisforum HX99G. When I connected it to the Studio Display with the apple-provided cable, I got no video. However, when I used a 40Gbps thunderbolt 4 cable, it worked perfectly on windows 11, including all of the features of the display: audio, webcam. Windows has drivers to run it at full resolution. This is the cable I am using (Caldigit Thunderbolt 4 Cable, 0.8 meter): https://a.co/d/bIduoVq
Posting this info here in case anyone is searching on this question in the future. I have seen people post about hdmi to usb-c cables working for the Studio Display but it’s very nice that it works natively with zero fuss on the HX99G.
