Diamonds problem

Downloaded and started a new caves and cliffs world. Have mined about 12+ hour to only find 4 diamonds is anyone else experiencing this? On the older version I would have stacks by now spending that much time mining. Yes I’ve cave mined, strip, and a little Xrying and having found squat.
