Advice for a future officer
This is a very veteran heavy subreddit (shoutout to the five star generals who, in their 5 years of service, deployed to Endor twice). Eventually I'm hoping commission into the U.S Armed Forces (Army National Guard or Marine Corps Reserve, both are backups to one another).
Officers get a bad rap in the military, and honestly a lot of it from what I've seen is justified. Just looking at the UCMJ made my jaw drop. Article 15 someone for forgetting to salute? It's very clear along with news stories that officers can get away with just about anything (see: ROTC pervert was able to retire whereas a CSM would've gotten lined up at Fort Leavenworth).
So, seeing that the majority of the veterans are enlisted, from your experience, how can I eventually become a good officer? I would prefer my unit would view me positively, but with the anti-fraternization laws, I doubt I'll be best friends with everyone. And I guess with UCMJ, it does somewhat force a unit to at least execute an officers orders, so I guess that's the minimum. I have no plans to skin a guy for not calling me sir. I would also appreciate inputs from officers as well, and any servicemen from other countries as well. I'll take advice from warrant officers with a grain of salt.
Thank you for your advice and have a good one.
