Car not starting, strange noise when it died - starter was recently replaced.

1992 Buick LeSabre

I replaced the starter on it less than 6mons ago, been driving perfectly fine since. The other day after getting gas I went to turn the key and the car made a weird squeal and then after taking the key out the engine kept making a repetitive sound for about a minute and it smelt a little burnt. It won't turn over ever since and it doesn't make any sounds when turning the key.

I got underneath to make sure the starter cables are secure and everything looks good. I attempted the screwdriver trick and I got some spark but nothing close to turning over.

Does anyone have recommendations for next steps? I really don't want to have to yank the starter out and go get it tested if there's a simpler troublestep option. Does it seem it might be the ignition wiring? TIA!
