Recently test drove a CX30 Turbo - my thoughts!
Hi all! I'm in the market for a new Mazda, and I recently test drove a CX30 Turbo and a CX50 non-turbo. I wanted to make a post outlining my thoughts between the two vehicles, partly to lay out my thoughts for myself, and to hopefully provide some insight for others! If any owners have insight or thoughts, I'd also love to hear them! I'm definitely leaning heavily towards the CX30.
First, I ended up driving a CX50 non-turbo. From stop sign to stop sign, at lower speeds in a more residential area, it felt pretty peppy, no complaints at all. However, I came to an intersection where I had to make a right turn, into traffic, up a hill, and accelerate up to about 35-40 mph. To put it frankly, with three adults in the car (me, my mother, and the salesman), the CX50 felt underpowered. I put my foot into the throttle a bit and it just felt gutless, there really was not much power and I know I wouldn't be able to live with it on a daily basis. It felt slower than my current vehicle.
Next, I drove a CX30 Turbo, and at lower speeds it honestly felt the same as the non-turbo, not much different. I got to that same right turn, and there was a huge difference! I was actually surprised, I even put my foot to the floor and it felt quick.
Due to this, I'm probably going to end up with a CX30 Turbo. In addition though, I was able to measure and make sure I can fit my skis in the CX30, which was a nice plus. The backseat room is usable enough for me as well. My logic is that I might as well go for a fully loaded, less expensive CX30 Turbo, rather than a CX50 non-turbo or stretching myself for a CX50 Turbo. If the CX50 Turbo wasn't out of my budget, then I'd seriously consider that model.
I'd also like to point out how nice both of these vehicles felt. The interiors were super nice, I was so surprised! The knobs and buttons and switches all had such a good click to them. The turn signals sounded really nice and I like how Mazda engineered them to mimic the human heartbeat. I also loved using the center control dial for the infotainment, I immediately got used to it. Additionally, the controls and whatnot were easy to use and figure out, quite ergonomic. Everything felt miles better than my current Jeep.
Anyways, this may be more of a pointless post, but just my thoughts. I was just excited to test drive a CX30 and I hope to be part of the Mazda fam with my next car!
