A movie based on The Rise of Hip-Hop (Straight Outta Compton, but in Kerala)

The Kerala hip-hop scene has come a long way, and I truly believe it deserves a movie like Straight Outta Compton—one that tells the story of the movement, the struggles, and the cultural impact it’s had. But here’s the thing: I don’t think it should be a solo biopic about just one person.

A movie like Straight Outta Compton worked because it focused on the collective journey of key artists, including Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eazy-E, The D.O.C., and DJ Yella, and their rise to fame. Similarly, a Kerala rap movie should highlight the contributions of multiple key figures. Think about how Fejo, Thirumali, Abu x Wrong, VKDKV, and Marthyan shaped the scene. And then you have producers like M.H.R., Joker, Kalla Shah, and AZWIN who helped craft the sound.

This isn’t just about music—it’s about the culture, the battles, and the rise of an underground movement to mainstream success. A collective story would be more authentic and showcase the diverse talents that made Kerala hip-hop what it is today.

What do you all think? Should this story be an ensemble like Straight Outta Compton? Is it a good idea? Does the hip hop culture in Kerala deserve it?
