Leica q2 or q3?
Hi everyone,
This year, I’d like to buy my first Leica, and I was considering the Q2. However, the new 43mm version just came out, and I have to admit I’m really interested in it—even though the price difference is quite significant. Right now, I can find a used Q2 for around €3000–3200, while the Q3 43mm is priced at €6000.
Aside from the price (since I could afford the Q2 in a few months, whereas the Q3 would have to wait until the end of the year), is it really worth the price difference?
Let me explain my situation to get better advice. I’m a professional photographer, but I work with a Sony A7IV and an A7C. This would be the gift of a lifetime for me, so I wouldn’t use it for work but rather for my personal projects, travels, outings with friends, and so on. So, I’m not really concerned about the “professional” aspects of the camera—I just want to know if the Q2 would be a good entry point into the Leica world or if it feels too outdated today.
The main things I care about are:
Whether the autofocus has aged well and if the image quality is still solid today.
If anyone owns one, how does it handle high ISOs and post-production recovery? Sometimes, I like pushing the ISO high to get that nice grain that looks great on certain cameras.
Is 28mm too wide in your opinion? I’d like to use it both at 28mm and crop to 35mm when needed. Do you think this is a practical way to use the camera, or would I get tired of it?
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to reply!
