RANT about ARTPOP, Joanne and Chromatica
Many people say that the reason ARTPOP, Joanne, and Chromatica weren’t as big of a success as the first three albums is because they are very different or "ahead of their time."
Although I partly agree, I also believe that the execution, logistics, and promotion of these albums hurt their respective performances.
Throughout Gaga's career, we've constantly seen disagreements between her and her record label about which songs would be ideal for promotion. We've seen singles canceled, replaced at the last minute, and promising songs forgotten.
For example, in ARTPOP, "Aura" was supposed to be the first single, but the label blocked it. "Venus" should have been the second, but it was replaced by "DWUW." There was a hiatus of about 6 months between "DWUW" and "G.U.Y." Promises that weren't kept, etc.
In Joanne, there was little promotion, and really great songs that would have made excellent official singles were forgotten, like "John Wayne," "Dancin' In Circles," "A-Yo," and "Diamond Heart."
In Chromatica, we had the stupid idea of filming the "Stupid Love" music video with an iPhone, and songs like "Babylon" and "Alice" were forgotten.
In my view, if there had been better execution and more organized promotion during these eras, their performance would have been completely different, and they would have been much more successful.
