I tore my meniscus last year

I have been having pain on and off. I went traveling to a couple countries, no problem. No pain, only if I stand too long because I am obese.

Im thinking of canceling my surgery to do 2 things:
1. go to PT and be stronger. Before I didn't do much exercise due to the initial tore, but the past couple months I've been active again and I feel much less pain. Think basketball and just being active and walking. Pain is mainly when I am on marijuana OR when I am standing for a very long time. I am able to play basketball on a brace no pain (minor swelling before, now none) AND walk 30 min on treadmill.
2. I think if I can lose weight (250lb 5'10) and be possibly, 200 lbs, I think that will hep a ton.

I'm a pretty big guy, but I just wanted to ask the people of Reddit if this is fine logic?
Anyone have a meniscus tear that doesn't require surgery and can just be active and strong and not feel pain?
