I want to get into Retro RPGs but don’t know whether to get a SNES or a PS1

I have been really wanting to get into old school RPGs lately and know the cream of the crop when it comes to those type of games are the SNES and the PS1 but am not sure which one to get. Games on the SNES like Chrono Trigger and others interest me but also games like Xenogears on the PS1 interest me as well. Any advice and recommendations for which console I should get and what games are considered the best? Some valid reasoning and pros and cons of both would be awesome as well as which games are the most acclaimed for each console
