It took me a long time to finish this book, though not by choice. Some moments were so heavy that I had to set it down, just to catch my breath and steady myself. I knew what I was signing up for, yet it still broke me more than I expected. I don’t know what else to say—except that I’m glad I had left this book unread all those years ago, after finishing Hosseini’s other two. Experiencing his storytelling once again, after a decade, felt like a gift. This is a book I will never forget.
