Stigma and Shame
I wish more people felt less embarrassed and ashamed about having incontinence.
Here’s why; if you had another disability, would you feel the same way?
In my personal opinion, people need to be exposed to it. It needs to be normalized.
We shouldn’t have to lives our lives in fear of judgement.
Personally, I’ve experienced that generally people don’t care and don’t judge or make me feel ashamed. I wear to the gym and while I might get an odd look or two, people don’t care. They just don’t pay it any mind. I’ve told several people at work and have gotten nothing but support and understanding.
Some people need diapers, some need wheelchairs, some need a walking stick for blindness and some need hearing aids.
I just want to encourage anyone would reads this to fight against the feelings of shame and embarrassment. Your incontinence is a part of you and doesn’t define who you are.
