Looking back at all Honkai Star Rail events, is 3.1 really lacking content?

Hello, trailblazers! First time posting on this subreddit. I'm an avid fan of Honkai Star Rail. English is not my first language but I will try my best!

After watching the 3.1 livestream, I felt like there was something lacking but I don't know what it is. I saw some users in the chat, as well as this subreddit and other subreddits as well, voice out their frustration about the lack of events/content in general that we're getting for 3.1. I did a little bit of digging while I was in bed to see if that really was the case.

I looked at all the past events starting from 1.0 up to 3.1 to see the frequency and number of events that we've gotten so far based on each version updates.

Criteria for Including An Event to the Event Count

I did not include double drop events and Trailblaze Continuance missions because they didn't come with limited rewards and I felt like double drop events, although is an event, wasn't unique enough to count.

I did include permanent events such as Everwinter Museum, Vignettes in a Cup, Divergent Universe and etc., since during their time of release, they did (Divergent Universe is still on-going as of this post) have limited-timed rewards attached to them where you needed to get far enough into the content to get all the rewards.

Now that we’re in a steady content cycle, updates might feel less exciting even if the event count is the same.

Version Update Events w/ Limited-Timed Rewards

1.1 - Starhunt Game, Everwinter Museum, Lab assistants, Stellar Flare (4)

1.2 - Tales of the Fantastic, Underground Treasure Hunt, Mystery Trotter (3)

1.3 - Aurum Hustle and Bustle, Space Station Task Force (2)

1.4 - Aetherium Wars, Planar Infinity (2)

1.5 - A Foxian Tale of the Haunted, Stellar Shadowkeeper, Boulder Town Martial Exhibition (3)

1.6 Critter Pick, Virtual Scentventure (2)

3.1 DU: Protean Hero, The Awoo Firm, Holy City Appraisals (3)

It seems that Honkai: Star Rail have been pretty consistent with the number of events they have been putting out over the many version updates that have released. But why is it that something feels lackluster? I thought of 2 things.

  1. Repetitiveness & Lack of Innovation

Many events follow the same structure: either a simple combat challenge, a minigame with limited interaction, or a dialogue-heavy event. I've been playing since 1.4, so could it be that I've probably seen variations of the same formats over and over again?

  1. The Illusion of "More" Content in the Past

Earlier patches introduced new systems like Divergent Universe, Pure Fiction, Apocalyptic Shadow, thus making updates feel richer. Maybe updates are feeling less exciting even if the event count is the same?

I'd love to hear other people's opinions because I am a big fan of the game. I support it by buying the monthly pass and the battlepass (so long as I complete the free one first) and I really want what's best for the game.
