When to install fence, before or after grass?
We are doing a new construction build in North Dakota. Starting this spring and will be done by next spring. My wife and I were debating on installing the backyard fence before hydro-seeding (HS) the lawn vs after.
Pros for fence before lawn: +Any tracks made by mini bobcat for post hole digging can be fixed during finish grade before HS so no need to lay sheets of plywood to drive on +Can happen early spring when it's too cold too start grass but warm enough to set posts in ground + Fence materials and labor can probably go on construction loan without too much risk of delays in closing
Cons for fence before lawn - finish grade and hs would (it seems to me) be more difficult with a fence present - getting grass to fill in evenly near fence could be difficult and more hose runs required to get grass to grow on both sides of semi private fence. - HS can't be included on construction loan but that is probably regardless of whether a fence is there or not
What am I missing? Which order usually happens in a home build?
