What are the most soundproof residential windows I can buy?
I live in a 100-year old bungalow that was built with rope and pulley windows. They were big heavy wooden windows that wouldn't open beacuse all the pulley ropes had dry rotted and snapped. And being the big brain genius that I am i decided to spring for new windows throughout the whole house. What I ended up replacing them with was vinyl single pane throughout the whole house, and boy do i fucking regret it. It's not even just that they feel cheap and flimsy, it's that they are NOT soundproof at all, and it's been so annoying since they were installed having to listen to all the cars drive past, it's so loud it's like the windows aren't even closed.
After spending a lot of time googling to see if there's any cheap fix to this, I guess it's time to just bite the bullet and replace them again, but this time spend the extra money and get actual good quality windows.
Now what I REALLY want are those industrial grade windows they have on office buildings, from my experience those are about as soundproof as you can get without just bricking up the windows altogether. I don't think that's in my budget though and for fire safety reasons I probably need windows that actually open.
I just don't know where to start - what kind of windows would offer the best soundproofing while still being appropriate for a single family home? And no I'm not asking for cheap / budget options. I've already accepted the fact that good soundproofing will be very expensive. Thanks in advance.
