will birth control help?

Hiii I’ve (23F) struggled with HS for almost 10 years and haven’t really had a treatment that I’ve tried long term. My dermatologist recently recommended trying birth control. Has anyone here tried it and did it help? I’m a little nervous bc I know there can be lots of side effects of birth control but if it could help maybe I’ll try it :) thanks!
