HOW TO WORKOUT WITH INGUINAL HERNIA?

I am working out from past 3 years and recently got diagnosed with inguinal hernia. I am 28 years old and maintain an active. However , the doctor(my GP) advised me not to lift heavy, which makes me wonder how one can maintain his/her fitness regime with inguinal hernia. To be more precise, what sort of training regime should one follow to stay strong and active. Thanks, please let me know , It's taking a toll on my mental now.
