Can Eli Vance Be Saved?

This probably will be a resounding no, but since the vortigaunts save Alyx in the start of episode 1 by going back in time with the larval extract, is it possible to do the same with Eli and save him? We are shown where and how the extract is gotten, and there were lots of vortigaunts in episode 2, so it seems like he could be saved that way.
