Will playing Elphelt make me bad?

So I was in the midst of a character crisis (previous Jack-O' main) and something about Elphelt just clicked and now I realize how much I love her. However, anytime I go online and try to find stuff on her, all I see is hate and complaints about how easy and braindead she is. I want to get genuinely good at the game (and fighting games in general) and she seems so fun but I don't wanna become bad by playing her. Any advice?
