Even on Streamer/Google TV the Apple TV app is still kneecapped
- No access to local content on your Mac (even if you paid for it). Apple TV was designed as a full Plex replacement, and yet it just doesn't work like that on Steamer/Google TV.
- No access to the Apple Movie Store.
- On the basis of the above no access to buying anything other than an Apple TV subscription.
Are we doomed for ever to have to just send things back and join the other ecosystem entirely because of this?
I bought a Google Home setup when there was no other option and Home kit was still a mess (in a lot of ways it still is).
Why can't companies just be compliant with each other. Don't get me started with Alexa that used to block both YouTube and Spottily.
Also: In all honesty in terms of movie stores by comparison, both the Google and Amazon options are shit, and I honestly don't trust that either will be around within the foreseeable future.
I used to think that it came down to the limits of CPU/Memory power by comparison, but now Google actually introduced a product that has enough power there is no reason to believe that.
This is shit, and I'm not sure who to blame, whether it's Google in limiting what Apple can put on their platform or whether it's Apple for not fully porting the Apple TV app to Google TV. It's bad for consumers either way.
