We built an app for making cinematic clips without FPS drop, what do you think?

Hey /r/GlobalOffensive, I wanted to get your thoughts on an app my friends and I have been working on for CS:GO, it’s called Allstar (https://allstar.gg) and it’s an alternative to ShadowPlay and OBS for creating and sharing short content (clips and highlights) for CS:GO.

TL;DR We built a simple way to make cinematic CS:GO content that actually has zero impact to FPS, no matter the machine. We automatically create movie quality 1080p60 highlights for you, all done using the cloud. Being a new app we are looking for your thoughts, feedback and suggestions. Let us know in the comments what you think about the app!

My background:

I used to play CS 1.6 at a professional level. I competed in close to a hundred LAN tournaments (even won a few) but what really got me my start was making movies. It took me countless long hours recording and re-watching demos, capturing footage, sorting, trimming, editing, finding somewhere to upload, share, etc. It was a major pain, but worth it. I was lucky, I had a ton of free time and knew some patient movie makers to show me the ropes.

Problem we solve:

I love playing CS:GO and can still pull off decent rounds, but I was disappointed by existing tools like ShadowPlay. I found the experience lacking, the quality poor, and the video only ever looked as good as my gameplay. I play 4:3 with black bars, low res, net graph etc, so, not a great looking clip. Then you have to trim, edit, upload and share. I tried other apps but the quality was also poor, they all dropped my FPS, ate up disk space and spiked ping during video uploads. And when you only have time for a game or two, your queue is yelling ready up, who wants to sit around working on clips?

How Allstar works:

Allstar handles the entire capture and sharing process. You set the app up once, do something awesome, then type !allstar in text-chat after (can be bound to a key). No video is captured from your screen, there is no burden on CPU, GPU, memory or disk space. The entire process is handled in the cloud using game data (CS:GO demos). We create the video at perfect quality with cinematic settings, and we automatically trim, tag, and title based on what happened, like this Desert Eagle 3K on Dust 2. Clips get added to your profile on Allstar.gg and posted to our Discord (if you’re in it), as well as your own Discord if you have AllstarBot. Clips can be downloaded and shared anywhere.

Supporting creators:

We really want everyone to get their content seen, so every day we pick a new clip of the day that we share and shout out on our Discord. Every week we make an edit of a great clip that week to give it some extra love on social media, and we designed our CS:GO clips page to balance popularity against newness like Reddit does, to help make sure a variety of fresh content gets seen. We also try to do a special custom montage every month or two to highlight our creators.

Looking for feedback:

Being a new app, we are working on making Allstar better every day. Right now the app supports CS:GO Comp MM, Scrimmage, Wingman and FACEIT. We are working on game types like casual, arms race, community etc. We have a lot of ambitious plans but would really like to hear what you think so we can make Allstar as useful as possible. Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading! I’ll be hanging around a bit and will do my best to answer any questions.

Edit: My first silver! Thank you kind Redditor <3
