Why was Paris dating a professor so incredibly weird and awful but strangely in character for her?

Please I hate this storyline just as much as anyone else and I think it’s so weird and gross. But does anyone else kind of feel like it’s in character for Paris? Maybe not cheating on Jamie but having a weird disgusting relationship with an older man (who is very clearly taking advantage of the fact that she’s young, neurotic, and emotionally vulnerable) in her early twenties feels strangely in character for her. I mean she’s a neurotic person with (not only daddy/parental issues) but an insane amount of pressure on herself not to fail. As gross as it is, it feels kind of realistic that she’d gravitate towards the first authority like figure who gives her attention. Gross.
