Manufacturer drivers vs official drivers?
Eyo. First off, if this counts as tech support, please change (or notify me and I will) the flair. This specific topic made me unable to decide between tech support and discussion, due to the fact I'm not exactly having an issue, I'm just trying to gain some concrete knowledge.
Anywho! I have found myself wondering which drivers are more stable / provide more performance when it comes to gaming laptops, in general.
Chipset drivers, GPU drivers, networking drivers, etc. Across the board, is it better to use the laptop manufacturer's (ASUS, MSI, etc.) drivers from their support pages? Or, is it better to go with the latest official drivers from the big boys? (AMD, Intel, NVIDIA etc.)
I'm looking for actual industry knowledge here, not just 'well I get 5 more fps in Valorant, so official drivers are better'. I'd rather have 5 less fps and eliminate all stuttering, than I would a 3% performance gain.
Also wondering if this is subjective based on the manufacturer. IE are ASUS provided drivers more up-to-date than MSI etc? This one's more of just a wonder, not an actual need-to-know.
Lastly, is it better/worse to have a blend of the two? IE the official AMD/Intel chipset drivers, but the graphics drivers from the laptop manufacturer's site?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to share personal experiences with various driver sources, but if it's not proven results, please say so to avoid confusion!
EDIT: Figured it'd be good to do a pre-emptive strike. I'm aware that having the most current official drivers is standard for a PC. For a laptop however, many official sites (AMD, NVIDIA, etc) have a disclaimer that suggests you use your laptop manufacturer's provided driver set. I'm wondering if this is simply to avoid liability for issues if the drivers are used, or if it's actually a benefit.
