Is there a fragrance that you fell out of love with?
Title! I’ve recently decided to let go of a few perfumes that I used to be MADLY in love with. As in, there was a long period of time that I truly believed I wouldn’t be without them. I’m shocked that my taste has changed so quickly, and I think it’s super interesting to see what I let go. Me from a year ago would be shocked and appalled, lol. Here are mine:
- Phlur Father Figure: When I first smelled this it was an instant, straight to full bottle love for me. It was everything I love: fig, powder, smooth but subtle wood, just a touch sweet. SO cozy. It became a signature super quickly. I stopped wearing it as often to wear everything else I own, and one day I suddenly could not handle how SHARP the powderiness was. I could no longer smell the fig at all, and every time I tried to wear it or spray it on my clothes I felt like I was bordering on a sneeze. I ended up selling what was left of it, and to this day I don’t know if my nose or the actual perfume had changed, or both. It makes me kinda sad to think about; no other frag I’ve tried this far has struck that exact niche for me. I wonder if anyone else has had this experience, and I don’t know if I’ll smell it again in store.
- Maison Margiela Replica Bubble Bath: Nothing has changed about how much I love this scent, but I’ve recently discovered that it’s one I enjoy MUCH more in the air (like via candle or diffuser) versus on my skin. That heavy, soapy coconut is so divine but I don’t reach for it to actually wear nearly as much as I used to. There are several other perfume notes that I’m coming to terms with in a similar way; I love to smell them, but I don’t think I want to smell like them. It’s kinda freeing, tbh. After I sell what’s left of my bottle, I’m buying that candle IMMEDIATELY.
- Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey: this was my fruity floral gateway and one of the first perfumes to start my fragrance journey. It’s a beautiful, crowd pleasing scent that has sentimental value for me, but its time in my collection has come to an end.
Would love to hear about everyone else’s fragrance breakups!! <3
