Under-Read/ Under-loved Books
Alright folks, I’m sure this has been done to death, but I want more. I want to know the books that you think hold up with the best of the genre you’ve ever read, but have low readership, rating of both. I’ll start:
-The Vagrant by Peter Newman. It has a 3.66 rating with less than 7,000 reviews on goodreads. That blows my mind. The writing takes a second to get used to, I’ll admit that, but once you’re in it and adjust, it is very enjoyable. The story is a mix of touching, bizarre, action packed and absolutely loaded with interesting world building and lore/history. I still think about this book pretty often.
-Sea of Rust by C Robert Cargill. A good rating, 4.08, but only 8,052 reviews on goodreads. (This is science fiction, sue me.) transparent prose with layered and emotional story telling, it is touching, riveting and at times, hilarious. I do not understand why more people haven’t read this book.
*I recognize that having 7,000 people read your book isn’t exactly nothing, and is something many of us would kill for. But relative to much of what is out there, with 10s or 100s of thousands of reviews, these two stand out for me.
Extra points awarded if the book you found that’s incredible inexplicably only has readership in the hundreds.
