FL studio suggestions

I'm looking to get my partner a gift for Christmas but I don't know the first thing about music production. He uses FL studio and makes beats etc. With his laptop. I wondered if it would be worth getting a midi pad and if so, does anyone have any suggestions? He doesn't have one so thought it would be worth getting one that wasn't overly expensive to see if he found it useful. Just need to check to hear any recommendations or even if they work with FL studio. Any advice would be appreciated
