Aman New York Review
I have to travel to New York every few months or so, and always choose to stay at the Aman because I am a sucker for the brand. Also I just realized I only have crappy photos from my instagram stories of the property, so ignore me (only shot I have of the bathroom), and excuse the screenshots. Anyway, I think it's a great property, and here is my review:
Rooms: 10/10 - Nothing more to say here! The rooms are just stunning. I've done all levels of rooms, from their suites to the basic room. The suites are more spacious, but not sure if it's worth the extra $. The ONE complaint about the rooms is that there is no true full length mirror, which was really surprising for me. They did bring one up to me when I called asking if I was just missing it.
Service: 9/10 - The staff is amazing, very personal. They act like they know me every time I arrive, even though I'm only usually there for 1 or 2 nights. The ONE issue I had (which is my fault) - I left the room, and while I was out I realized I forgot to turn off the do not disturb light. So I called the front desk and told them to disregard, and please send housekeeping up. Apparently the "please disregard the do not disturb light" message was lost in translation, and my room wasn't cleaned. Of course, they PROMPTLY sent someone up, who was the sweetest and so apologetic even though it was my error.
Pool: 7/10 - meh, nothing spectacular here. We had the entire pool to ourselves. It was nice, but didn't blow me away.
Spa: 11/10 - I am not really into spas, but their spa has changed my mind. A friend and I went through the whole sauna/cold plunge routine, and it was just amazing. I will have to rethink my opinion of going to spas. We also had specialty service to get hair/makeup done and an IV drip. They came to my room to do both and the people they work with were so kind and wonderful.
Gym: n/a - sorry! I did not inspect the gym. Will have to report back next time I'm in town.
Food: 10/10 - The restaurants are so good! I'm vegetarian, and they were great at accommodating, adjusting dishes to be vegetarian, etc. Drinks are also great. The room service menu is a little small, but they have the best hummus, so I don't mind. Staff at the restaurant are wonderful too.
Property in general: 10/10 - It is a great and peaceful escape from the city. I don't love it as much as their remote properties, but I don't think I would do better anywhere in the city. It's very dark and calming inside.
As a side note, I love jazz, and thought the jazz bar was really nice. It somewhat turns into a dance club after 11pm though, haha. We were not expecting that.
